Course

This 1-year part-time course is an excellent opportunity to equip the learner with an adaptable skillset to work in a variety of areas such as a Special Needs Assistant (SNA) in a primary or post primary school setting, community support and community development or healthcare.

Progression

The course is QQI level 5 certified and offers progression pathways to employment or further education at level 6. It is also recognised as a pathway to third level education in areas such as Social Care, Community Development and Youthwork.

Entry Requirements

The learner may have an existing vocationally specific skillset and seek reskilling/upskilling in order to re-enter the workforce. A completed second level education is desired, however, if the learner has not achieved a previous formal qualification, it is expected that the learner will be able to demonstrate the levels of competency associated with the NFQ level 4 when accessing the programme.

Attendance

Part-time course over 1 year

Work Experience Placement

Work experience is a core element of this programme. Students will be required to complete 60 hours of placement over the course.

Garda Vetting 

All students need to be Garda Vetted for this course, which will be processed through the Adult Education Service.

Eligibility 

This course is funded under BTEI funding. In order to be eligible, applicants must be:

  • An Early School leaver, and/or
  • In receipt of a Social Welfare Payment or
  • Have a GP or Medical Card
  • Students can pay a fee if they are not eligible for funding
  • Signing for Credits
